Our History, Products and Services

Prairie Village Pet Hospital was built by Dr. Bob Skinner in 1984 when Eden Prairie was emerging as one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Twin Cities. Five years later Dr. Jim Nelson joined the practice immediately upon graduation from Kansas State University.   For over 15 years both doctors worked together empowering their staff to provide outstanding service with a personal touch.  In 2005, Dr. Skinner redirected his interests to veterinary research accepting a job with a major medical device company in the Twin Cities. Dr. Nelson purchased the practice and worked solo for over 6 months while he looked for the perfect replacement for Dr. Skinner. In the spring 2006, Dr Sven Kohlmyer was hired. He graduated from Ross University Veterinary School on the island of Saint Kitts and then went to work in a large, corporately owned practice in the Twin Cities. Dr. Sven was looking for a new environment where he could expand his skill set and have more time to work up complex cases. He’s a perfect fit for our practice and has been well received by our clients. We continue to invest in equipment and training to provide comprehensive veterinary care at a reasonable price.
